I Am Rose (N. Rorem)

Born in Rochester, New York, Carol Cannon's professional operatic debut was in Benjamin Britten's The Rape of Lucretia (Bianca) with the Chamber Opera Society of Baltimore. She received a B.M. in Voice from the Peabody Conservatory of Music; a M.M. in Vocal Performance from University of Maryland; an Ed. D. in Educational Administration and Vocal Performance from East Texas State University. Her principal teachers include: Alice Gerstl Duschak, Baltimore; Lili Wexberg, New York; Frances Bible, Houston. Her vocal coaches include: David Garvey, Otto Guth, New York; Leo Mueller, Pierre Bernac, Baltimore; Harold Heiberg, Dallas.

 

Dr. Cannon has been a full-time Artist/Teacher in Voice at East Texas State University and Visiting Professor of Voice and Vocal Repertoire at Rice University, Shepherd School of Music. Since 1981 Carol Cannon holds the life-time designation as Artist-in-Residence from the Texas Commission on the Arts. Currently she is listed on the Artist Roster of the South Carolina Arts Commission. She has been an Artist-in-Residence with the Arkansas Arts Council and the State Arts Council of Oklahoma.

 

Throughout Canada, Europe, Mexico and the United States, Carol Cannon performs concerts and recitals and presents master classes and lecture recitals. She has appeared as soloist with the Baltimore, Boston, Dallas, and National Symphony Orchestras. Carol Cannon is listed in the International Who's Who in Classical Music, 2002 and in the Dictionary of International Biography, 2006.
